Borderline Chief Blanket

Borderline Chief Blanket
30 x 42 Inches
$4,000 negotiable
Shipping included.
Good Morning,
On my last trip to Natasha's, this rug was nearly finished. I was able to see it completed and photograph it before I left.
While I was there, I spent some time with Natasha, learning about herbs that grow in the desert and their uses. What can be healed with parts of the Pinon tree is truly amazing! The tree is used for healing, potterymaking and the nuts are just delicious. When they are purchased shelled, in a bag, from the grocery store they are nothing like the fresh ones.
I spent a lot of time with Natasha's family, learning and having fun. I can't wait to go there again.
Until then,
G.

New photo of the 4 in 1

4 in 1
25 x 38.5 inches
Hand woven, 100% wool
2,500.
Greetings!
Finally, here is the photo of the 4 in 1 rug that was featured in my last post.
Recently, I had the opportunity to spend a week with Natasha and family in their hogan on the Navajo Nation. They took me to some beautiful places and we had a really good time. I got to meet the sheep and a couple of goats, too.
I learned what it is like to live without plumbing, haul water, and survive in a brutal environment.(high winds, snow, mud, drought). I learned about necessities.
Now, I am finishing my own migration and returning home to Arizona. I'll be able to send more posts and hopefully learn more about wool, sheep, and other life lessons.
In spite of the awful politics in Arizona, it's time to go. Besides, the opposition to bad laws could use another voice.
Below is a paypal button for the rug featured above.

As always, I do this as a friend and receive no commission or payment of any kind.

Water and the Navajo Rug

I spoke with Natasha last week. I was dyeing wool in my kitchen. I asked her about how she does it. In her explanation, she said: " After you finish, you must lay the wool out on the ground (on a cloth) so that the water goes back into the earth."

Natasha understands the preciousness of water. Living in the desert where drought is the norm, many people have to haul water to survive. Please think of this when you are brushing your teeth with the water running.

Natasha's rugs are made with conservation and no damage to the earth. There is a photo of one below that is for sale, and more to come. Please stay tuned.

4 in 1 and Baby Laugh

Four in One.
100% Wool
25 x 38.5 Inches
Sale information below.
I got a rare photo today. Natasha sent it from a borrowed cellphone camera. It's the latest rug! It's in the Chief Blanket style and it's called a "Four in One" because within the rug, there are 4 small rug patterns woven into each corner. This intricate pattern is really amazing. If she still has it when I visit I'll take more photos. I doubt she will still have this one. It's really fine work of art.
I got a letter from Natasha recently. Her grandson laughed for the first time. Cute, I thought.. but then I remembered that the Dine' (Navajo) have a celebration for a baby's first laugh. I think that if we all placed more importance on such events, we would be a lot happier.
